{"id":766,"date":"2020-05-26T07:04:35","date_gmt":"2020-05-26T07:04:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/shelteredingrace.com\/?p=766"},"modified":"2020-05-23T14:13:25","modified_gmt":"2020-05-23T14:13:25","slug":"ode-to-journey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shelteredingrace.com\/index.php\/2020\/05\/26\/ode-to-journey\/","title":{"rendered":"My &#8220;Ode&#8221; to the Journey&#8211;A Sincere Heart"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>God desires from us sincerity..He wants us to have a sincere heart (Ephesians 6:5); a sincere mind (2 Peter 3:1), a sincere faith (1 Timothy 1:5), a sincere wisdom (James 3:17); a sincere devotion to Christ (2 Corinthians 11:3), and a sincere brotherly love for other Christians (1 Peter 1:22).<\/p>\n<p>That means He wants our whole heart in every area of our life.\u00a0 He wants us to be authentic.\u00a0 He wants us to be real.<\/p>\n<p>Most of you know that I am a teacher by trade.\u00a0 For the past two years, I have had the privilege of &#8220;teaching&#8221; the same group of kids&#8211;in both 8th Grade English and 9th Grade English.\u00a0 They have been &#8220;stuck&#8221; with me&#8211;and for that, I am forever grateful.\u00a0 Each and every single one of them has challenged me and made me stronger in my faith.\u00a0 English is one of those subject areas that lends itself &#8220;to&#8221; real and authentic and sincere conversations and communication.\u00a0 Since I am at a Christian school, we can discuss our faith openly.\u00a0 Our struggles&#8211;our fears&#8211;and one thing that they can spot from a million miles away is hypocrisy&#8212;and that doesn&#8217;t lend themselves to &#8220;only&#8221; their peer group.\u00a0 They need us, as adults, to invest in them and let them know they are not alone and we don&#8217;t always have it together either.<\/p>\n<p>In order to do that,\u00a0 we must know who we are.\u00a0 We must know our identity.\u00a0 Teens are establishing their identity&#8211;but as adults, have we established ours?\u00a0 We are not perfect&#8230;.we struggle&#8230;but we are able to endure because of Him&#8230;completely surrendering and letting His light shine through us.\u00a0 Letting His love soften our hearts and mold us&#8212;weeding out the imperfections and desiring Him to take control in all areas and relationships in our lives.<\/p>\n<p>After moving to remote or &#8220;distance&#8221; learning the last nine weeks of school, I wanted something that we could work on that would challenge them to be rooted in who they were&#8211;really think through and focus on their destination and what road they were taking.\u00a0 There has been &#8220;time&#8221; for that, hasn&#8217;t there???\u00a0 \u00a0We took advantage of it.\u00a0 For their last assignment EVER from me, I asked them for a sincere heart.\u00a0 I asked them to write a &#8220;personal creed&#8221;.\u00a0 One that exposed&#8230;one that brought to light what needed to be brought to light&#8230;and one that they could anchor back to when times get tough and they may be lost or unsure.<\/p>\n<p>6 Questions:\u00a0 who are you, what is your purpose, relationship at home, relationship with the world, things you can&#8217;t change, and things you can change.<\/p>\n<p>And since I was asking them to do it, I knew that I needed to dig deep and ask these questions myself.<\/p>\n<p>So here you go, in &#8220;poetry form&#8221;&#8230;.(They could choose a traditional essay, poem, or iMovie essay \ud83d\ude42 )<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>My \u201cOde\u201d to the Journey<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Born almost 40 years ago to Joe and Cindy Ogden,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My life\u2019s journey has made me a friend, a wife, and a daughter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the cornerstone though, is God. (Is 28:16)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I am redeemed through the blood.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because of that gift, my purpose is to be His.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is to serve and honor Him despite the circumstances.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This life will bring tribulations,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But these tribulations can strengthen me if I allow it. (1 Peter 5:10)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My journey will not be a checklist.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will be out of pure love to live for Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And share.\u00a0 Go out with the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have been knit together in my mother\u2019s womb.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He knows the numbers of hairs on my head.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I am made uniquely for His purpose.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now it is up to me.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It starts in my home.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being a wife and a mother.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Love God, love your neighbor love yourself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teach it on the back of your hands, on the doorpost, and the gates. (Deuteronomy 6:9 )<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The world will try and influence, but I will remain strong.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I must be transformed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead of \u201cFearing others over God\u201d,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I will Fear God over others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My light will shine bright for Him.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I won\u2019t harp on things I can\u2019t change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I will control myself.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I will protect the most important body part I have&#8211;my mind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I am a child of God and I will live for Him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>So now, a challenge for you:\u00a0 why not think deep and answer these questions?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Who are you?<\/li>\n<li>What is your purpose?<\/li>\n<li>Relationships in the Home<\/li>\n<li>Relationships with the World<\/li>\n<li>Things you cannot change<\/li>\n<li>Things you can change<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>He wants from us a sincere heart.\u00a0 He doesn&#8217;t expect perfection&#8211;and we can&#8217;t expect that of ourselves.\u00a0 Instead, be moldable.\u00a0 Dig deep and ask these hard questions.<\/p>\n<p>Let Him shape you from inside out&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Anchored to Him,<\/p>\n<p>Leigh Ann<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>God desires from us sincerity..He wants us to have a sincere heart (Ephesians 6:5); a sincere mind (2 Peter 3:1), a sincere faith (1 Timothy 1:5), a sincere wisdom (James 3:17); a sincere devotion to Christ (2 Corinthians 11:3), and a sincere brotherly love for other Christians (1 Peter 1:22).
