Your life is not an ordinary life. You may think it is, but it is not. You have been called to be different. You have been called to be transformed. You have been called to be the light.
Matthew 5:14-16 says: You are the light of the world. A city is set on the hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works land glorify your Father in heaven.
Look closely at verse 16 again. That is a command. You are to let your light shine. You are to let the shine before others. They will see your light–and that light better point them to God.
What we do reflects whether others see Christ. We live in a world of REVIEWS. You look at them before you make purchases, whether big or small, before you go to the restaurant, and before you travel and stay at a resort or hotel.
So what does your review say about you?
Are you walking in His light? (John 8:12) Are you giving credit to the TRUE source (Matthew 6:1) or are you living for you?
We live in a world where we wrestle with being “liked” or being “light”. Sure, being “liked” is nice, but sometimes being the light doesn’t bring you to being light. Remember though: We are to be transformed instead of conformed. Have confidence in what God says. What He says are the ONLY WORDS that matter! This is where your confidence should come from–and when your confidence is here, you can have COURAGE.
So shine that light in your home. Your kids soak up YOU. That may be calling you out as a parent, as a grandparent, as an aunt, as an uncle, etc…You are THE example for them.
Proverbs 4:18: The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.
What would your reflection say about you right now? A complainer? A “grumbler”? Are you serving? Are you anchored? Do they see you praying and studying? What about hospitality (in COVID-19 way of life right now)…You immediate families should benefit from the light shining from you the most.
And what about the people around you? I think what has been an absolute “shocker” to me is how many people you come into contact with on a daily basis. If you have had to deal with contact tracing in the midst of Covid-19, ONE person can affect MANY. How do you influence the people you are around? Do you shine light or darkness?
Your friends….your co-workers…the person in the car next to you…your digital footprint (EVERYTHING YOU POST–IT WILL NOT GO AWAY). How are your reactions, actions, and words? If we are to be the light to the world, we have to remember our influence.
Don’t let the thought of being a light scare you. You are up on that hill, but,—He does not call the equipped; He equips the called (Hebrews 12:20-21). Cling to Him—Let Him be glorified.
A quote to end with by Carolyn Steverson—
“When God is glorified, Satan is nullified.”
Go Be the LIGHT!
