Anchored with Hope During the Storms

March 4, 2019

We are on a journey here on earth.  This journey will have its mountain highs and valleys low…trials…tribulations…

It will have calm.  It will have storms.

Some storms we have will be self-imposed.

Some storms will be there when we are doing what we have been directed to do.  When we read through Matthew 14:22-30, we see that the disciples meet a storm AFTER being told to get in the boat ahead of their Master (Jesus) so He could pray.  John’s account actually tells us there was a violent wind accompanied with rain…and how did they react?  How did they feel?  They were scared.  They were paralyzed with fear.

We have little control over our environment and there are a lot of things we cannot change.

When that happens, we have to DEPEND on the unwavering character of God, building on the promises He has given us.  We have to be anchored to Him.

Hebrews 6:19-20 states, “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek..”

Three words stand out here.  Hope.  Anchor.  Soul…

SOUL

You and I are a valuable vessel.  We have a soul that separates us from ever other living thing.  The soul unites me to God and it needs an anchor.  It is fragile and it feels pain.  It needs a hooking point sturdier than any storm we may encounter.

This soul needs hope…

HOPE

This particular word has two definitions; trust and expectation.  David said it in Psalm 39:7...”And now Lord, what do I wait for?  My hope is in you.”  He relied on AND expected God to keep His promises.  We need to have that same trust and expectation.  This gives us hope.

And our anchor is this HOPE, this trust and expectation in God.

ANCHOR

It can’t be “anchored” on anything earthly–a person or possession.  It has to be set on the THRONE itself.  If we are anchored here, that anchor will never break. Will the opponent try and trip us up?  YES!  Satan will use his tactics to try and break us.  But, the victory has already been won.

Trust in the winning team.  Trust and have expectation in His Promises.

  • He will never forsake you  (Deut. 31:6, Hebrews 13:5)
  • He loves Us  (1 John 4:10)
  • He will judge justly  (1 Peter 2:23)
  • Nothing is impossible  (Luke 1:37)

Life isn’t easy here on earth.  We will face trials and tribulations.  But you, a valuable vessel to God, have been given promises that can be trusted.  You can have expectations in God because He will never fail you or leave you.

Be anchored to Him and His throne of grace.

Anchored to grace,

Leigh Ann
